Be An Eco Tourist

br />
The popularity of flying and holidays abroad are increasing rapidly, despite air travel ebeing the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions. We've compiled a short guide to how you can become more of an eco-tourist;

Don’t fly so much

This may be an obvious point, but sometimes people don't give a second thought to alternative modes of transport.

If you are taking an internal UK flight, think about taking the train - there's no check in time, and with the speed of some commuter services your journey need not be long (plus there's plenty of leg room!).

If you are planning a break in Paris or the North of France think about taking the Eurostar, Eurotunnel or a ferry ride if the weather is nice!

Sometimes flying is unavoidable, so when you do fly...

Fly smart

Try and keep your pollution to a minimum when flying, try and fly in daytime and warmer weather as these flights pollute less.

Plan your route to avoid stop overs as multiple take offs and landings cause even more carbon emissions.

Perhaps choose holiday destinations that are closer to home, rather than taking long haul flights. Or take long haul flights less often.

Find out about who you fly with and see if they have an environmentally friendly policy.

Holidays at home

Brighton isn't as exotic as Bali, but there are hundreds of destinations in the UK that are great for short city breaks. Visit a city you've never been to before, or plan an adventure and activity holiday closer to home.

Find out who's green

Look at the companies you are flying or staying with and their reputation. Make sure they have some 'green credentials'.

Be aware...

Just being aware of the impact your pollution has on the environment you travel to and the wider impact of global warming will hopefully help you make greener choices while you are away on holiday.

Don't get greenwashed!

Some companies are claiming to be more 'green' than they actually are. Do your homework and make sure you book your holiday with a reputable green tour operator.
